“She kept the porch light on for everyone.”
Eleanor grew up beside the water and never really left it. She baked for a living and for love, remembered every birthday on her street, and believed a house should always smell like something in the oven. She is survived by three children, nine grandchildren, and a great many people who called her Nana without being related.

Born in Savannah, the youngest of five.
1968
Married Thomas beneath the live oaks at Bonaventure.
1974
Opened the little bakery on Abercorn Street.
1991
Taught her first grandchild to swim in the Wilmington River.
2019
Fifty summers in the same white house by the water.

She could turn any Tuesday into an occasion. Cloth napkins, the good plates, someone's favourite song on in the kitchen.
Thirty years across the street and she never once let us come home to an empty fridge.
